My timing was advanced, oh, twice as far as it should be. Go figure. I never had my timing light in the same place as the car since I rebuilt my distributor. Runs much better now. I also got my electric fan hooked back up after, for some reason, the random switched power wire I *was* using to pop the relay started only supplying .5v for some reason. I am not sure why. I think it has something to do with my broken handbrake switch. Either way, I got my electric fan working again just in time because it hit 65 degrees in winter in Kansas after about 7 consecutive days below zero. Sigh.
Meanwhile the Miata is trying to return to the earth. Generally on an NB if you see this on the front frame rail it means that the underlying structure is completely gone but after poking at the rust with a screwdriver it appears to be rusting from the outside in instead of the inside out, though there are rust spots in identical places on each rail which is... unusual. Going to wire wheel the area and POR15 it and see what the damage is. If that structure goes bad it’s not good juju.

Yay for buttresses, boo for rust.

Where did you end up with initial and all in on the timing?

I’ve always thought those buttresses look like they were originally intended to have a curvy, side-opening, E-type style hatch sitting on them.

13 I think? Really not sure what the timing marks meant but the few minutes of googling seemed to point to where it ended being 13 degrees of base advance.

You are making it very difficult to not buy one of these
